I used to blog more frequently, and since I’ve read Jane’s blog post about how productive she was while blogging daily last month, I’m thinking that I have to jump back on the bandwagon. Yes I certainly had excuses for a month or two… but I’ve run out of those and I need to do something. I definitely think blogging and creativity are related, at least for me, so I’m going to step up my game a little. Fellow bloggers – what do you think?
Last week’s productivity – a pair of socks!
Quick and fun to make with Farmhouse Yarns’, Bo Peep’s Not Just for Socks Yarn. I knit these in the top-down style, for daughter #1, while we were traveling last week. Since top-down is the method I’m most familiar with, I’m going to set a goal for myself before next winter: the next pair I make will be toe-up style (for daughter #2); and the pair after that will be created with circular needles (for Mr. Tamdoll). When I’ve learned those methods, I’ll make a pair for myself with the style I liked best.
On that note, I haven’t stopped reading blogs, and thanks to Carina’s Craftblog most recent post, I backed up my Blogger. It’s so important, and I rarely do this important task – so if you have a blog, or a computer with anything on it that you’d hate to lose – backup now!
While I was in my blog settings, due to the advice of Rose of Randomcreative’s 10 Blogging Pet Peeves – I adjusted my Word Verification settings for comments – turning them off. Personally, I find them a bit annoying, but I endure them when requested. There are times my older tutorials get spam comments and I like to think the Word Verification stopped some, but instead I’ve simply added a comment moderation restriction for posts older than 14 days - hopefully that will help things while keeping commenting pleasant for honest folk! There have been times I couldn’t leave comments online because no matter what, I couldn’t get the words correct, so I hope this alleviates any issues for folks that hate that feature. Any comments?
I've removed my word verification as well. They're such a pain. Who can even decipher what they are. I set my moderation to 14 day old post as well and I'm very happy with this arrangement. Blogger caught most of the spam!
ReplyDeleteBecause I had to go to the old interface to adjust the setting, I realised that upon coming back, my new interface setting had some little problems with the line break. I think the problem only surfaces if you use Blogger editor and you work from html mode. But it can be fixed easily.
Welcome back!
Would you believe it? Within minutes, I got a spam comment on my business card holder tutorial. These people are relentless. Or maybe they're just "bots".
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out! I hope that you don't get too many spam comments. Hopefully moderating older posts will help.
ReplyDeletePretty socks! + how fun that you signed up for your first online class, they can be so much fun and inspiration! I've done a few and enjoyed them a lot.
ReplyDeleteHappy blogging!
Thanks! I'm looking forward to learning something new this summer.
DeleteEvery so often I try turning off the word verification but then I get flooded with spam. I agree, word verification is a pain but it doesn't stop me from commenting.
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable how many spam comments I've gotten since I turned this off, but notifications have kept me updated to what's going on, so I can delete them as they come in.
Deletelovely socks! I wish I could knit them!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out backing up blogs.
I don't use word verification at all. I have comment moderation for posts older than 5 days, but that's because I don't want to miss any comments. I'm thinking of changing it to 7.
