I was out all day today, but had been saving this picture to post sometime … it’s artful… and maybe the day I did it long ago was a Thursday…. Here’s the story:
Once upon a time, a few years ago, I was so excited to get my mail and receive the new issue of Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine. I jumped on the couch, read the whole thing then needed to do something creative to brighten up a corner of my home. “What about the laundry room?” I thought. Having a huge stash of craft acrylic paints and inspired by a refrigerator magnet, this is what I came up with:
(Ok, maybe it wasn’t “inspired” – perhaps it looks just like the magnet…) I finished it that afternoon and it’s definitely cheered up that little grey corner. Unless you’re doing my laundry, or peeking in my side-door, you’ll never see this. Over the years we’ve used the flower stem as a height chart for my girls, too - in hindsight, I wish I had put that on something removable, it’s very nostalgic to look at it now and see how little they were.
Funny how I’ve always had this box of paints in my basement – but I don’t usually paint things, just wooden bases for dolls once in a while. If I had to go out and buy supplies I would have had more color in the painting but definitely wouldn’t have had it done in one day – so it was a good, quick, cheerful project.
Do you add artful touches to your home?
I LOVE the little bit of sunshine in your laundry room! And the impromptu height chart--every time I see something like this, tears well up in my eyes. The thought of our kids growing so quickly...ack!
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I covered a wall with wine crates and made shelves. It was a spur of the moment thing, the kids were in school, and my husband had been collecting wooden wine crates from our local wine shop. Hmmm, maybe I'll throw it on my blog so you can see it. Right now, it sounds pretty horrific!
Thanks for sharing. I love Artful Thursdays.

ReplyDeleteI love your little cheerful corner, sweetest is the height chart. My boys are growing so quickly...I feel the need to do something like that. Thanks for the inspiration
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to lighten up the not very fun laundry room!
ReplyDeleteI move too often to do anything like that, but my mother and two siblings painted fish on their bathroom wall several years ago, and attached a fishnet to the ceiling.
Wow - how incredibly cool - our laundry room is in the garage so no chance of adding beauty in there. What a happy little pice to see regualrly.

Your sun looks cute. Looks like a woman with beard! Oops.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! That certainly must brighten up the laundry room!
ReplyDeleteI painted vines with leaves on my powder room wall. Come of the vines crawl onto the ceiling. I think it's fun.
I love doing little things like this to the walls-we are renting right now so I have put up that brown paper that you use on packages and we do little murals on those-that way I can take them with me! AND it works great with acrylic paint!
